3D Modelling | Bridge challenge

Ok, now this challenge went a lot better than the
previous task. This activity was a team based brief
that had our group had to design and fabricate
a bridge that would support a remote cars journey
across the bridge.   


For this we had twenty sheets of card, ten bamboo 
sticks, a craft knife, thirty elastic bands
and a lot of masking tape. 


Firstly, in our groups we investigated the best way to
create a suspended structure across the distance
we needed for the remote control car. This included
canopy structures such as the millennium dome now
known as the O2 as well as various types of bridges
such as spring arched or trestle bridges.


After researching into structures our
group concluded that the design
should take inspiration from a
viaduct bridge structure. This was
to ensure that the surface of the 
bridge would be supported evenly 
and securely. (Above)

bridges. Some were to be successful
others maybe not.
Nevertheless, the variety in aesthetics
as well as designs was amazing
especially those who had created jumps
on their bridges. (Above)

inspired bridge. Bamboo sticks were
used to create a solid base that would
branch out into further supports.

The table underneath was the tested measurement
deployed to ensure that passing vessels such as
ships could pass underneath our bridge. It was
also a handy support during construction. (Above) 

Composing the top of the bridge in a similar design
to viaduct bridges although more for visual
appearance instead of function. (Above) 

Complete. The bridge had support above
and below. These above frames however
worked more for aesthetically purposes
rather than improving the bridges overall
structure. (Above)

Geoff tests the suspension of our build.
It was safe to say our bridge worked
brilliantly as the car made it cross a
number of times without struggling.
