Branding: Schnell snow board

Over the festive period I decided to
develop on the branding project
by visually illustrating onto an old
snowboard. The idea was more
of a idea clear out for this brief
before the new year. However, the
canvas was added to every other
day and became a breathing living
document which I believe instills
the lively movement of the brand.

In conclusion, it was an absolutely
awesome to produce and the challenge
to work on such a different canvas
was something I would like to
pursue in the future.

There was a lot of white acrylic paint.

Personal Manifesto

A small piece produced that combines
my work as well as my thought process
to create a short GIF that was published
for my personal manifesto project.

The idea came to me after I was unable
to think of a way to visualise my personal
beliefs. As a result I ended up taking a
picture of myself and erasing the space
where I should have a brain and replaced
it with the phrase 'WASTE OF SPACE'
After this I developed the idea further by
adding more of my work into the hole in my head
by using a GIF.

All the work depicted in the GIF is my own.

Branding: SCHNELL WEBSITE

After producing the logo for the brand
as well as a advertising slogan and
campaign I decided to produce
concepts for what the brands website
would be.

The layout itself is a simple
design that focuses on the
products on screen as well
as giving relevant information
on each product. The design
takes inspiration from other
snowboard websites such as
Decathlon, Burton as well as
Rossignol.

Additionally, after producing a large
quantity of art illustration for the
brief without being able to use it in
a commercial format I also proposed
a page on the website dedicated to
artwork or photography. This would
be a platform for like minded
individuals to publish work related
to the 'SCHNELL' lifestyle or brand.

For instance the piece I produced
below was an initial design for the
slogan that I was unable to publish
for the brand commercially. However,
I still wanted to create a platform
I could present this work.

Branding: Schnell KEEP UP slogan

The final logo for the 'SCHNELL'
brand was formed from the two
final l's fitting both within a
rectangle area. The outcome
is tidy and also versatile as the
area of the logo can be used
to visualise images inside of
the logo.

This idea was inspired by the
use of primary photography
on previous campaigns and
the idea that the logo had
to capture speed. As a
result I combined a number
of images both secondary
and primary that depicted
the playful/ quick energy
of the brand. These
images were then put into
a gif quickly transitioning
to give the effect of
fast movement into the
logo.
The slogan for the brand was
a natural extension of the logo
as it was intended to be a
response to the brand name
itself. 'SCHNELL' meaning
QUICK! Was then followed
by 'KEEP UP' This is why
the slogan appears at the
end of the gif sequence.
Above: The final logo was chosen for
it's bold form and it's ability
to be scaled for large as well as
smaller advertisements.

Additionally, the reason for choosing
the last two letters of the brands
title was because of the way the
two L's fitted in harmony. Peers
as well as tutors agreed that the
L's were more recognisable than
other test letters used.

The images used during the logo
gif that represents the intended
target market of the brand.

Branding: SCHNELL initial logo concepts

Before the festive break I managed to
upload the design mood boards I was
using as inspiration to produce a
completely new brand.
The idea was to produce a brand
name that revolved around
snowboarding and the laid back
typical snowboard/ski lifestyle.

The brand was ultimately named
'SCHNELL' The German word
for fast or quickly that was chosen
to instill a sense of movement.
Therefore logo's and type was
experimented with to capture the
meaning of the brand.

Above: Inspired by the work of Chris Piascik
this illustration was an experiment to capture
the fun and wild playfulness of snowboard
graphics.

Unfortunately the illustration was too complex
for scaling down onto advertisements, labels, etc.

These experiments were a few
type concepts that I produced
in hopes that it would capture
the idea of playfulness and
a nonstop lifestyle.

However, each font narrows
the intended target market as
test groups were divided on
which font appealed the most.
Nevertheless, the fonts were
used in prototype products
such as snowboard concepts.

The use of primary photography also relates the
brand to a particular setting. As a result, I also
experimented with using illustrate type over
photography to produce a logo that is
recognisable and associated with the correct
themes.

David Bowie depicted by the words
most regularly associated with the
legend on the world wide web during
his entire lifetime.

A true innovative character he will be
